CFFL (Catholics for Family & Life) Choir

Psalms: 71:23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul with thou hast redeemed.

By: Sis Marylou Ugad (SFL Abu Dhabi)

Thank God for the choir as they sing

Each Saturday morning as their voices ring

Peace and love in our heart we feel

We know our God is great and He is real

The sound of angels, that’s how they sing

Saturday mornings, as their voices ring

The words and music that we hear

Lift our hearts as we know God is near

We leave the care of the world behind

To God we open our heart and mind

We let Him come in, our sins he forgive

He renews our strength and helps us live

The talent, He has given to us

It may not be the talent we chose

But if it’s the thing we do best

Then we should share it with the rest

LBS – Liturgical Bible Study

Liturgical Bible Study (LBS) is a Catholic Bible study program. Our Bible Studies are based on the Liturgical Calendar.

LBS is wonderful method in doing the Bible Study.

It has several important effects:

  1. it unites the family every single week;
  2. it unites the family around the Core/Center who is most important for every human person/family: Jesus Christ Son of God made man;
  3. it unites the family by reading together, listening together and applying together the mind of Christ in His Word found in the Sunday Gospel and the Readings from the Old and New Testaments, above all
  4.  it unites the family by preparing every member to fittingly worship God for the coming Sunday Mass.

Mission

To help people prepare for Sunday Mass and get to to have a deeper understanding of the Word of God.

STRUCTURE OF THE LITURGICAL BIBLE STUDY

I.   INTRODUCTION

The facilitator or leader opens the Bible Study by reminding the members that today’s texts will be taken from the readings of the coming Sunday. The giving of the scriptural references of the texts will follow this. It will be much easier to let the members find all the texts and mark them on their own bible with a flourescent (luminous) pen before proceeding further.

II.   OPENING PRAYER OR SONG

III.   BIBLE STUDY PROPER

A. Gospel

  1. Reading of the Text.
Ask somebody to read the text
Intro: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to … _chapter _verse
Extro:
The Word of the Lord

2. Exploration of the Text.
(The facilitator encourages the group to explore the text by asking questions based on the text. Together they look for answers from the text that will shed light and understanding on the reading.)

  3. Summary of the Text.
(After exploring the text the group will make a summary of the reading.)

B. First Reading

  1. Reading of the Text.

  2. Exploration of the Text.

3. Summary of the Text.

C. One Thread Message

(The group formulates a “on- thread” message using the summaries of the readings. The “one-thread” message expresses the unity of the three readings. The readings used in Masses (whether 3 readings on Sundays or 2 readings on weekdays) form one theme or message.)

 IV.   ACTUALIZATION/APPLICATION

The biblical text has now become for us the “Word of God” and ‘source of spiritual life.’ The group will discuss how the message of the text is seen as a reality today.

  a. Actualizing the message of the biblical text within the community of believers, the Church.
  b. Applying the message of the biblical text in one’s personal life

GTKY Servant – Tito Teting

By: Sis Lanie Irog (CFL Sharjah)

May his soul rest in peace. Amen

GTKY Servnat - Tito Teting

Brother Teting while in the hospital shares his spiritual journey. How he found his new self, the second time.

Just heard the news one day that a brother in Christ – Brother Teting was admitted to the hospital, then, later on, went through a spinal operation. Thought to pay a visit but when, hasn’t decided yet until one fine day, as requested, I needed to visit him and it made me more eager to see him as I hear his so-called “spiritually high” status.

This term and by its meaning – Bro. Teting is at the pinnacle, being one with God.  I couldn’t sleep the night before I visited him; I can clearly see his face with my eyes closed. I thought of grabbing my phone and wanted to message him to say “I’ll be there tomorrow” – but I didn’t. I was so sleepy & my daughter was so sick. I got up the next morning and found his message “Sis, kelan ka makakapunta dito?”

Say no more, I called a half-day off request to my boss and without any question (that was the first time) – Yes, you can go. I was smiling as I realize I was really meant to go visit him and respond to his request.

Saudi German Hospital, Al Barsha. Just as I arrived, he was being transferred to a room for a bone scan. Waited for an hour while his wife – Sister Issa, whose face still full of sweetness and courage told us a brief story of his suffering before he was admitted. He used to be sick every time the weather changes, they thought just like any other individual would say “nagpapalit lang kasi ang panahon”. He experienced numerous back pains but ignored it and continue working and serving in the community (CFFL) then it came one day to a horrible pain that he’s unable to walk normally and his left leg began to numb. They didn’t realize it was a serious one until an MRI report has confirmed a lung tumor went down to his spinal bone compressing it. The doctor in SGH advised him for an immediate operation to remove the tumor which decompresses the bone and so the operation was done.

Brother Agustin “Teting” Codog – “mag ju-jueteng noon, naka move-on na ngayon”.  He was shaking (probably he didn’t notice that) in his excitement as he entered back his room and immediately told the caregiver pushing his wheelchair not to lay him on his bed but instead to place him beside the window glass, drank a bit of water and we started with a prayer. Briefly, he shared that he used to live in a gambled life (jueteng) and so he shared his life’s ups and downs connected with numbers and their meanings. He should be somehow feeling better after the decompression/operation. He was able to walk and eat his favorite Mhadbi but then he was unable to discharge bowel…for eight days! He should have cleared his stomach before the operation as per the procedure but it didn’t happen – he didn’t know why and his agony started. It was so tough, the heaviness in his stomach, pain in his body and most of all, his agony is killing him…he was crying.

On the 8th day, he couldn’t stand the pain and apart from it, he’s feeling hopeless. His wife helped him walk thru the toilet, he’s crying in deep pain and he sinned as he asked HIM to end the pain and cut his life. But because HE is Almighty and he is a servant of the Lord, there’s suddenly a reflection of God in his thought who died on the cross for him and realized then that HE suffered more than his and so he asked for forgiveness. He whispered “My Lord, forgive me for I have sinned” and then suddenly…the eight days of agony, eight days of suffering has ended. He discharged it and his tears bursts — he said it out loud “Praise God! Thank you Lord!” and while smiling he thought to himself “mas masarap pang dumumi kaysa kumain”.  Along with this experience and recalling the stories untold connecting the numbers (memorable dates of his life, the 9th bone on his spinal where the tumor was, his birthday etc.) and their meaning – he gave me a sum of 25 and he connected it to the birth of Jesus, HE was with him during his sufferings and is with him all the time. He couldn’t contain his happiness; he couldn’t believe that he is again able to feel that comfort. He was “high” spiritually that he was unable to find a good night sleep in his excitement and wanted to share his upgraded version of faith and his affirmation that he’s no longer himself but a revised version of God’s creation and said: ” This is a new beginning of my Life with Jesus on my back “

The conversation boiled down to the doctor’s findings of his health condition — although not documented yet, he stated he was told that the tumor taken from him is cancerous, malignant stage 4 cancer. The tumor was removed, but he was told that there’s found the third one in his gastro intestine

<< Rewind

<< 5th March 2016; It was murmured to him by one of his sister in Christ during a healing pray over that there was something wrong with his stomach ~. This was later on confirmed by physicians and was concluded as an ulcer.

I can clearly remember during his sharing on one of the talk session that he was knocked and called out loud by God after he’s been saved from a serious car accident. The car being driven by his colleague (with him on the driver’s passenger seat) was half wrecked just an inch away from his seat. A day before the incident, he didn’t realize that his colleague mistakenly took his car key and so he needed to pick him up as he left his car in the company’s parking lot. For some reason before riding the car, he took the rosary guide that was being kept in their altar for years, put it in his bag and place it at the back of the car and left. While on the road, his colleague told him ” I’m sorry Codog, I didn’t know I took your car key” and he replied: “Maybe God has a purpose for it” then suddenly – their car was hit from the back by a truck who nearly wrecked him if not because of his bag kept at his back seat.

Thanking God for he is not injured and so that is why he was in front of us affirming that he is responding to HIS calling. As he stated, the incident happened in January 2011. The same month of the previous year (January 2010), he was appointed to lead a Christian Life Seminar, which he just ignored and he didn’t even show up. After the car incident, he was again given the second chance and asked to lead the CLS and replied: “ Tatanggi pa ba ako dyan, baka sa susunod matuluyan na ako”.

For others, blessings are counted on every good opportunity. Not looking at wealth, comfort, capability or any other fair condition, blessings are given to each individual equally. You may be ill which can lead you realizing how soon you’ll be leaving your human body but you’ve had the opportunity to live and when you suffer, there’s the opportunity given to you to join Christ.

God bless us all!

Our Greatest Love Story

Our Greatest Love Story

Pong and Nancy Buan – CFC FFL United Arab Emirates

Pong-Nancy Sharing for TVM.png

It all started like a love story though not on finding Mr. and Ms. Right, but on God’s mysterious way of finding us and bringing us unto His fold.  My husband Pong, was the first one who was called and joined the CFC Youth for Christ Ministry in 1997.

He enjoyed the service especially the missions to other places. His dream of becoming a vocalist of a rock star band faded away and was replaced by the desire to play the guitar with songs of praises to God. At this time I was still busy with my own world. I do participate on church activities but my life was only confined on a small town where I grew up.   Until one time, due to my sister’s persistence who was an SFC member, I’ve finally said yes for a Christian Life Program.  It was a year after, when Pong and I crossed paths and were appointed to lead a CLP.  Then the Lord’s plan for us slowly unfolded to our very eyes.  We were tasked to handle a unit then a chapter. The Lord did not stop there, He allowed us to serve on different activities of the community where our talents, creativity, humility and love for service were molded and enhanced for another challenging work, to be SFL Coordinators. Our journey in the community however has its share of uphill and battles, but the Lord did not give up on us. Despite all the struggles, in the end, His Will made us through.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

On December 20, 2007, we became partners, not only on our service in the community but also on a much higher calling, as husband and wife. These new roles shifted our focus more on the family we will build together. Plans were made and our feet led us to a foreign land, Abu Dhabi, UAE. We thought our journey in the Couples for Christ Community was over, but indeed God will call you even to the ends of the earth to the work of evangelization. After a few months in UAE, our hearts longed for the community life. So we decided to look for our CFC family and God led us to where our hearts belong, to CFC FFL. At first we were both hesitant about getting tied up with the service but the Lord slowly revealed His plan for us.  We then

realized that indeed, we are members of the casts of the Lord’s love story not only of our own, but for all His people. The roles He gave us to take on gave us the realization that for whatever we have gone through individually and as mission partners were all part of His bigger plan for us. Currently, we are serving as Family Ministry Coordinators here in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Lord allowed us to share the joy of His victory to this part of the world.  We know that the work is great and what the future will bring us is indeed uncertain. But we believe that His greatness is bigger than anything else in this world.  That his plans are perfect and being part of it is both a blessing and an honor that Pong and I gladly partakes.

On this 25th Year Celebration of Couples for Christ Foundation for Family and Life, we thank God for his abundant mercy and the opportunity to serve Him and be part of His greatest love story.

A Loving God

By: Sis Rei Moises (SFL Abu Dhabi)

A Loving God

My innocence got me believe in You
My growth separates me from You
Where I am no longer hearing You
Where beliefs turns into doubt about You
You gave me life to see the beauty of Your creations
You have given me everything all I ever needed
Yet all is not enough to feel Your love
Yet I am searching for something different
In times of frustrations I turn to You
In times of losing hope I run to You
You never failed to comfort me
You always give me reasons to live
Now, here I am, broken and losing
Lost in searching for everything that is nothing
Broken of fighting for the wrong doing
And there You are, embraced me with Your love.

Rei Moises - TVM Entry.png

That, so-called-journey

We always contemplate that life is just a journey,
A road to travel and diversify consistently.
Yes it is a journey, but to what point-of-array?
Are you heading to right track in your way?
Give yourself a rupture to nap and think.
Seize that glance on your side without a blink.
For the beauty of journey sees from within,
Never get struck for some cliché that’s hidden,
Rather stand stiff, aloud and breakthrough,
For God is with you, to guide and protect you through.

My Journey with God

By: Sis Jenny Agsoy Vidanes (CFL-Abu Dhabi)

I spent 4 hours daily in my travel from Abu Dhabi Dubai and back, a total of 13 hours in a day of being away with my husband and kids. It’s not easy, I’m sure everyone would agree! Though it came to a point in time of my life that suddenly it was a great time of building my relationship with God. It’s a great time of silence and solitude, a time where I can meet the Father, to talk and listen to him, laugh and cry with him like as if he is just beside me. I dedicate my day to him and soak in his presence.

I am now celebrating my 1 year of this long journey to my Dubai work. For me, this is a miracle of how I was able to overcome the stressful long travel, but I completely did! through the power of being with God every day nothing is impossible. Of course, I am not saying this just to give confidence to myself and give myself a boost. But it is really through God’s power and strength the fills me.

During my first 6 months working in Dubai it was a challenging period for me, I was at that time nursing my son, I have to pump my milk in the office and bring the milk at home in Abu Dhabi. So apart from my long travel, I also have a big luggage with me carrying every day. This are the important stuff that an office nursing mom must have. There was this particular day while rushing myself catching the first train in the metro station from world trade to ibn (45 mins travel time) to get into the pickup time of my car lift to Abu Dhabi. I was walking and running very fast in the walkalator of the metro, to my rush, my right shoe tripped/lodged into the end of the walkalator. What happened next was a big disaster and a shameful somehow. My whole body completely fell/stumbled into the floor and all the things I was carrying that time thrown away from me. I just couldn’t imagine how embarrassing I look like, but all the things I knew and felt was that my body was in pained. No matter how painful it was, I still forced myself to stand and picked up my things scattered on the floor and proceed walking while enduring the pain. It’s very hard that nobody cared to ask or help me from those people passing by. I remembered Jesus that time when he stumbled several times while carrying the cross, most people were mocking him, though, my body is in pain, but I am really sure that it can’t be compared to what Jesus went through during his time. Felt very helpless, but as I continue walking, I realized that this must be LIFE! That after you stumble you have to pick up your pieces again to become once again whole and continue your journey until you reach the finish line where God is waiting for us. That time my goal is just to come home safely and be with my family in Abu Dhabi.

After that challenge, there comes a miracle. One day had met with the team and my boss was there, he asked how am I doing? Am I still traveling from Abu Dhabi, I said YES. Then, what comes next was a surprise to me. He told me, why not work from home if needed and just come in the office if we have any meetings and other necessary work things to do that needs your presence, that way, it will help you to get more time with family and at the same time cost saving in your transportation as well – Boss said to me. Wow! I felt I won the lottery 😀 when I heard it. I was so overwhelmed with full of joy and a big smile in my face. I looked up and I told God I know it was you, God. Thank you so much! My boss never knew what I went through especially that incident happened to me on the metro train. But God sees me always, every day, every minute and every hour and he is always with me. I’m sure that after that incident happened to me. God wants to replace the pain into joy and this is what he did at some point, and he used my boss to relieve me. Wonderful and very grateful for itJ.

I believe that we all walk in different journey in Life, as Life is a Journey and only God knows the miles and distance how far or near we are towards his great plan. Apparently, we don’t have the right to choose a certain road or direction we would like to go. It maybe the road that we are taking in right now could be rough or long to reach the way we measure it, but I am pretty sure, it will be worth it, if we let God handles this for us. There will be challenges that will come along our way, but that is always the opportunity for our growth and maturity. We should not pray to God to strengthen us to overcome our difficulties in our lives, we should pray that God who is full of strength and power will enter in to us and lead us to the right path. John

16:33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.”

God bless us all!
